The Biological Experiment Center of the College of Life Sciences was established in 2010. It originated from the Animal and Plant Laboratory prepared in 2004 and the Biological Laboratory approved by Central South University in 2005. To meet the requirements of modern biomedical experimental teaching and scientific research, the College of Life Sciences integrated the teaching laboratories from various departments and institutes to establish the center in 2010.

The former directors of the Biological Experiment Center were Tang Jianhua, Wang Jun, and Xiang Xinying, while the former deputy directors were Ding Naizhen, Liu Shuiping, and Tang Lijun. The current director is Sun Shuming, the deputy directors are Luo Saiqun and Liu Xinfa.

The Biological Experiment Center spans a total laboratory reaches 4,377 square meters, and it is located in both Xinglin Campus and Lunnan Campus of Central South University.

The Biological Experiment Center comprises the following laboratories: Biochemistry Laboratory, Cell Biology Laboratory, Molecular Biology Laboratory, Genetics Laboratory, Zoology and Developmental Biology Laboratory, Botany and Ecology Laboratory, General Biology Laboratory, and Bioinformatics Laboratory.The Biological Experiment Center is oriented towards biology and medicine-related majors and is responsible for over 20 experimental courses including biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, general biology, zoology, botany, developmental biology, ecology, genetics, and bioinformatics. There are more than 340 total experimental projects and over 2,000 instructional hours. Every year, it undertakes approximately 140,000 class hours of experimental teaching tasks, making it an important supporting platform for the cultivation of undergraduate students in biology and medicine.

The Biological Experiment Center has also established open sharing platform for large-scale instruments, high-pressure sterilization facility, hazardous chemical management system, ultra-low temperature freezer room, and pharmaceutical storage room, etc.
