In 2019, with the approval of the Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Department, the Hunan Provincial Key Laboratory of Basic and Applied Hematology was established based on Central South University. The laboratory integrates the research strength and resources of Xiangya School of Medicine of Central South University, the affiliated hospitals of Central South University, and the Hematology Department of Hunan Cancer Hospital. It also establishes in-depth scientific research cooperation with several research institutions in the United States. The laboratory focuses on the cutting-edge directions of international hematology research, integrating disciplines and technologies such as biology, medicine, pharmacy, and chemistry. Through the establishment of the laboratory, it promotes basic and clinical translational research in hematology in our province, and serves the major demands of national and social development.

The laboratory currently comprises 40 members, including 20 professors and 17 associate professors. The personnel structure is mainly composed of young and middle-aged individuals, with a well-balanced age distribution, academic backgrounds, institutional affiliations, and ratios of basic research and clinical personnel.
